陶器と磁器の取扱について(柴っこ工房の場合)

陶器と磁器のちがいは、陶器を「土もの」磁器を「石もの」と呼ぶように、その原料となる粘土の違いで区別されます。

陶器はカオリンを含まない粘土(土質)を低温で焼いて作られるのに対し、磁器は石質即ち長石が主成分を成している磁土を
高温で焼成します。
従いまして陶器は暖かい味わいや表面の素朴な風合いが楽しく、逆に磁器は白くガラスのような滑らかさ硬質さが魅力です。

柴っこ工房では 信楽の粘土を使い「成型→素焼き→絵付け→本焼き」と一から手作りしているものと、
素焼きの素地を購入して「素焼き生地→絵付け→本焼き」と制作している器がございます。

前者を「陶器」、後者を「磁器」と区別して表記しております。

● The porcelain :  I purchase bisque porcelain products from a reputable potter in SETO.

● The pottery   :  I made potteries from scratch.

So what are the difference between the porcelain and the pottery, you might ask.
Pottery is made of clay, while Porcelain-made of claystone. 
Bisque fired pottery can be earth color and the pottery values the warmth of the earth colors.
Porcelain products can be harder and thinner, and it is white in color and its surface is smooth.  
In this website, "porcelain" refers to products that I purchase in the bisque fired form from a reputable potter,
while "pottery" refers to the pottery that I made from scratch.
